Brussels

Food & Drink

The Belgians are renowned for their love of fine food and nowhere can you find a wider choice of places to eat than in Brussels. With more restaurants per square mile than probably anywhere else in the world, eating out in Brussels is truly a gourmet experience. The highest concentration of eateries can be found in the Petite rue des bouchers, just off the Grand’ Place. This narrow medieval street is a real feast for the senses, even before you set foot in any of its restaurants, with bustling crowds, bright neon lights, seafood stalls displaying their daily catches and the constant buzz of lively conversation.

Being home to the European Parliament, Brussels has a wide range of restaurants to suit all European tastes in addition to the hundreds of traditional French and Flemish establishments. As a quarter of the population is made up of immigrants from the Mediterranean, Turkey and Africa, there are also lots of more exotic restaurants for those who fancy something a little different.

It would be impossible to name all of the best eating places here as there are so many good quality restaurants, but below are a few that are definitely worth a visit.

The upmarket and expensive Comme Chez Soi on Place Rouppe is the place to go if you want to treat yourself on a special occasion. Reservations are necessary as it’s always very busy.

Bonsoir Clara on rue Antoine Dansaert serves great European dishes with a distinctive Mediterranean influence.

If you fancy some African food, it’s worth taking a trip over to Vie Sauvage in the EU Quarter (rue de Naples). Decorated in authentic Moroccan style, it provides the perfect surroundings in which to enjoy wonderful North African specialities such as tagines and couscous dishes.
